Supported hardware
The current release of windRose has been tested with:
- palmOne Treo 650 (IBM J9 Java Virtual Machine) and an external Hamlet bluetooth GPS receiver.
- Airis T-620 (IBM J9 Java Virtual Machine) and the integrated GPS receiver.
Previous releases have been tested with other devices that we think are still compatible:
- palmOne Treo 700w (IBM J9 Java Virtual Machine) and an external Hamlet bluetooth GPS receiver.
- iPaq hw6515a (IBM J9 Java Virtual Machine) and the integrated GPS receiver.
windRose has been reported to start on some Nokia devices, but we don't know yet if all features are available and reliable.
In general, the requirement is a palm device / mobile phone with Java support (CLDC 1.1 and MIDP 2.0). Most of recent pieces of equipment come with Java pre-installed; in other cases you should check your technical manual. For Palm/Treo gear, you need an IBM J9 runtime.
Please note that to run windRose on the Treo 700w you have to do an update to your Java setup (this is because on the 700w J2ME doesn't include the JSR 75 by default, which is needed to export the trip date). The instructions are on Markus Brosch blog (thanks to Clayton Morlock for trying it out).
If you are trying windRose on a new platform, please let us know of your success (or failure) - you can help us in porting the application to your gear.
We are committed on supporting windRose on as many mobile platforms as possible.
