Trip Recorder

In every view mode, you can control the trip recorder by using the main menu:

  • Start / Stop Recorder: toggles it on and off. When the recorder is on, a "REC" red indicator is shown on the top of the screen; a number at the right of it indicates how many samples have been recorded so far. You can start and stop the recorder whenever you want, and it won't never delete the data collected so far.
  • Add Landmark: this option let you record a landmark related to the current position. You can select a landmark type and enter a name.
  • Add Note: this option let you record a note related to the current position. You can select a note type and enter a name and a free text.
  • Delete Trip Data: this option let you completely erase the data recorded so far. Warning: this menu doesn't ask for confirmation and can be undone.

When your trip is over, you can export your data to a removable memory card. Select the main menu "Export trip data": a new screen appears with the readout of how many data samples are in memory and a progress bar. Press the "Export" button to start the exporting process; the progress bar will tell you about the completion state of the process. Exported data is stored on the flash card at the path <home>/windRose/Export, where <home> is the home folder that you have set up in preferences.

In the preferences you can choose the format to export to: it can be either GPX, a well known open standard, or WRX, a windRose proprietary standard based on XML. GPX at the moment only exports the track, not landmarks or notes (issue WR-79); WRX exports everything. You can easily convert the exported GPX file in every format by using the free tool GPSBabel.
